Dr Adrian Woolard

Head of Future Experience Technologies, Research & Development - BBC

Adrian Woolard is Head of BBC’s Research & Development North Lab located in MediaCityUK, Salford.

He is responsible for the Future Experience Technologies research team working on next generation user experiences combining media, data and emerging consumer and production technologies.

The multi-disciplinary group contains expertise in engineering, human factors, software development, design, product management and media production covering a unique combination of long term research and near term innovation.

Current work is focused on Augmented Reality, Object based media, AI and Machine Learning, Human Data interaction and participation as well as responsibility for a number of open innovation programmes with UK start-ups.

Adrian’s previous work has covered wide range of media and technology sectors; Computer games, Location based services, VR, computer graphics for Films, motion capture, facial animation and he holds a PhD in Animatronics with Jim Henson’s Creature Shop.
