Steve Ridgway CBEChairman, Visit Britain
Steve Ridgway became Chairman of VisitBritain in April 2017, having been a Board Member since 2013.
He is also Chairman of Scandlines Ferries, and has Board advisory roles with Aim Aviation Ltd and GIP (Global Infrastructure Partners)
Steve began his career at Sir James Goldsmith’s Cavenham Foods and later joined the TolemanGroup, as Business Development Manager. When the company bought Cougar Marine in 1981 he became General Manager based in Miami. On return to the UK he became the Project Head and Chief Pilot of the two ‘Virgin Atlantic Challengers’, the boat in which he and Richard Branson re-captured the famous Blue Riband record for the fastest crossing of the North Atlantic 1986.
He remained close friends with Richard Branson and formally joined Virgin Atlantic in 1989 as Managing Director of Virgin Freeway. His career with Virgin progressed rapidly as the airline grew very fast, becoming Managing Director of Virgin Atlantic Airways in 1998 and Chief Executive from 2001-2013.
